Dear Reading the City friends,
I promise not to make a habit of this, but I’d love to share some exciting personal news with you all: my debut novel, AMPHIBIAN, will be released in the U.S. on October 22 from Ig Publishing. It’s a subversive coming-of-age story set in 1990s England, following the friendship of two girls as they first discover their bodies and their desires—and the unexpected transformations that follow.
And look how pretty it is!
Writers I deeply admire have described it with much more fluency – and generosity! – than I ever could:
“Gorgeously written … resurrected for me the exquisite and ecstatic pains of girlhood” —Hannah Lillith Assadi, author of Sonora and The Stars Are Not Yet Bells
“Haunting and visceral as a fairytale, Amphibian captures girlhood in all its feral, mythic glory and horror.” —Lilly Dancyger, author of First Love and Negative Space
“... brims with sex and violence and threat, and moves to a crescendo of strange and magical beauty.” —Rebecca Stott, author of In the Days of Rain and Dark Earth
It’s now available for pre-order from your local bookstore or online (Bookshop.org supports indie booksellers!).
And for book world friends, if it piques your interest, I’d love to hear from you, especially with any opportunities for coverage, essays or reviews, or readings, and, indeed, if your own book crosses over thematically, maybe we can set up an event together!
Finally, please all save the date for Amphibian’s New York book launch on October 30th – also my birthday! – at Books Are Magic with the brilliant Hannah Lillith Assadi! I’ll be in touch—jut once more!—closer to the time with details.
With enormous gratitude …
… and now back to our regularly scheduled Reading the City programming!
